Classic wrestling from ‘42

The following match from the USA in 1942 is a real gem for fans of the old all-in wrestling.

The cameras are in close proximity of the wrestling action, which must be quite a rarity in those days, and which makes you feel as if you’re part of the bout.

One of the wrestlers, Mike Mazurki, would later appear in one of my favourite films, Some Like It Hot.

First time seeing Mazurki in the ring as a pro. He looks good. In addition to many TV appearances, he also played a wrestler in the Richard Widmark film, Night and the City, where he wrestled Stanislaus Zbyszko. Also remember seeing Wee Willie Davis in a couple of films, Mighty Joe Young and one of the Abbott and Costello movies.

Was Davis always playing a wrestler in these films you mention?

In Mighty Joe Young it was Davis and about ten more big pro wrestlers in a tug of war with the giant gorilla.
Davis had a couple of wrestling scenes and a couple of lines in Abbott and Costello in the Foreign Legion.
